BRAKE TECH AXIS DESIGN STAINLESS STEEL FULL-FLOATING ROTORS

AXIS Design rotors represent nearly two years of development in high technology braking systems. The new AXIS full-floaters feature premium heat-treated 420 stainless steel in a newly optimized petal design that offers style and performance with none of the downside associated with other contoured type rotors. The overall weight is virtually identical to their SuperLite predecessors, but they have many new and innovative features making them substantially stronger and with much improved thermal transfer capabilities. They feature a unique Direct-Link™ load transfer system making the red floater buttons non-load bearing; they control float only. This increases the thrust face surface area between the outer blade and inner carrier for greater load transfer capacity, and a substantial improvement over conventional floating designs. The black hard anodized carriers also feature design elements that improve assembly strength by straightening the load path from curvature to linear. Material here too is very special; we spec only U.S. made Alcoa or Kaiser aircraft grade aluminum, cut and CNC-machined from bar, not stamped from plate. Weight minimums are prudently kept in-step with the demands of top-level racing. While light assembly weight is certainly a desirable goal, even more important is ensuring an optimal material mass to deal with the realities and requirements of high thermal load exposure. Regardless of rotor shape, one of the basic physics of braking is the conversion of kinetic energy into thermal energy; adequate material mass for this process is critical. Lastly, AXIS™ Design rotors are manufactured with advanced cryogenic technology, to eliminate residual stress and effectively change the core "default shape", which is changing the memory shape of the base material to a new base configuration. This means the new default shape is flat and true. As the rotor expands and contracts under thermal stress, it always wants to retain the memory shape thereby resisting distortion. Reduced material wear is another benefit.Note: See chart for any applicable footnotes.
